Protect Your Computer with Frequent Computer Cleanings

Welcome Back to the Cyberclean Blog!

If you’ve worked with computers for any length of time, you probably realize that the hard drive disk needs to be cleaned occasionally to help computers operate more efficiently. But what about the outward components of your computer and its accessories? How do these affect your computer’s ability to perform as well as your office environment? Let’s explore reasons why it’s important to clean your computer and some easy ways to safely perform this task.

Your computer can become a breeding ground for germs and bacteria if you don’t clean it periodically. The environment where your computer is located plays a factor in how often you should clean it. Is your computer located in a home office or business office? If in a home office environment, do you have indoor pets or do your children use the computer for games or school research? Is your computer located near a washer/dryer where lots of dust may collect?

Cleaning Tips for the Keyboard

The keyboard is probably one of the main areas where germs and bacteria accumulate, and yet is the area where the most human contact takes place. A filthy keyboard can become an avenue for viruses to spread, especially if more than one person uses the computer. Dirt, grime, hair and even food can accumulate between and underneath the keys, even if you wipe the surface of the keys often. Have you ever spilled coffee or a soda into your keyboard? If so, this will cause the keys to stick and hinder performance.

You can use compressed air to dry it out and blow dust from between the keys. There are also specific products designed for “deep cleaning” a computer keyboard, such as CyberClean. This anti-bacterial, germ-killing product is safer than many cleaning compounds, and can be used for keyboards, auto components in cars and other types of automobiles, a variety of tech products, and even your Blackberry phone!

Wiping the Monitor

On a regular glass monitor screen, use an ordinary household glass cleaner. Turn off power to the monitor before spraying any liquid solution. Wipe carefully with a soft cloth until completely dry. Use the cloth to wipe away dust from the monitor case, or use microfiber towels or a duster.

Clean Your Computer Case

The computer case protects your hard drive while allowing air to flow through the drive for cooling. Dust the case and vacuum or wipe away any dust that accumulates in the airflow vents. This will not only improve the appearance of your computer case, but also keeps the components inside cool and in excellent working condition.

It’s a good idea to visit a computer specialist every six months or so to have the inner components of your computer cleaned, such as the motherboard. Dust, hair and other items can settle on the inside of your case and hinder performance.

More Tips

Never spray liquid onto any component of your computer case or keyboard. Use a small vacuum or air compressor to get dust out of those hard to reach places. Or, keep a special computer cleaning product such as CyberClean handy. Keep your computer off the floor if possible, and check it at least once a month for dust build-up on the air vents. Always unplug the computer before cleaning around its components. Laptops may require different instructions for cleaning as they are designed differently.

Keep in mind that a clean computer will perform better and last longer. Use these tips to keep your computer in tip-top shape!

Electronics Cleaning Tips: Keep Your Electronic Gadgets Squeaky Clean

Welcome Back to the Cyberclean Blog!

Electronic gadgets tend to be magnets for dust, dirt, hair, and food particles. These unhealthy culprits seem to be attracted to all the tiny spaces around keys, buttons, fans and plug-in areas. When your computer doesn’t seem to be running as well as usual, check the fan area for dust build-up. When your cell phone starts to feel or smell icky, check all the buttons for dirt build-up.

Some electronics will sit for days or weeks without being used or noticed. Others are used every day. Either way, dust will collect on electronic products such as computers, televisions, remote controls, game consoles, phones, CD players, etc. Keeping them clean and free of dust will not only make the air in the room a little fresher, but will also help your electronic items operate more efficiently and last longer.

How to Safely Clean Electronics

There are quite a few germ-killing, anti-bacterial products available specifically for cleaning electronics. Consider investing in a small, handheld vacuum for removing dust in or around your electronics. Also, buy some dusting solution that’s free of harsh components or chemicals. Use a can of compressed air to blow dust from those hard-to-reach areas. Also, invest in a deep cleaning compound such as CyberClean for a thorough cleaning around buttons, knobs, and other small areas on electronic devices.

Products like these can help maintain electronics without risk of damage. They can also be used for other household needs as well as auto cleaning. You can easily use the handheld vacuum or CyberClean compound to clean your car or other automobiles. This provides a two-fold benefit if you need cleaning solutions for your home and office. Keeping electronics clean in the home or office environment can also help reduce the spread of viruses.

More Electronic Care Tips

When cleaning electronics, be sure to shut off the power before using any type of liquid cleaning solution. Check the instructions for cleaning computer and television screens; different screens might require varying cleaning methods. Spray solutions on your cleaning cloth instead of on the product itself to avoid getting the components inside your electronic product wet.

If spills occur that seep into an electronic product, allow the item to dry out before trying to clean. Then, use a deep cleaning compound like CyberClean to try and remove the hardened substance. It’s best to dry it out before trying to use the item again.

When cleaning Blackberry or other types of cell phones, it’s important to avoid liquid solutions and use a dry cloth or a compound like CyberClean, which is a putty-like cleanser that you can simply press over the keys and remove. It pulls dirt and germs from the tiny spaces around the keys without the dangers of getting your phone wet.

Wipe wires and cables occasionally with a dry cloth to remove dust. Be sure to check your plug-in outlets, adapters and power bars for dust as well. When wiping an electronic item clean, try to avoid pressing buttons that will change important settings.

Electronics often go unnoticed while cleaning, but taking these few extra steps will keep them in good operation and possibly add several more years of use!

Home Office Cleaning Tips for the Busy Work At Home Mom!

Welcome Back to the Cyberclean Blog!

If you’re like most work-at-home moms, you might find it difficult to keep your home AND office clean. Besides, when you leave “work” you certainly don’t want to spend your off time cleaning the office, right? What if you could easily keep your office clean while you work and spend your time off with your family? By making just a few simple changes in your office cleaning habits, you can keep your office in sparkling condition throughout the workweek. This will free your time to take care of household needs when you’re not working.

Cleaning Products for the Home Office

Today there is a variety of cleaning products designed to make home office cleaning easier than ever. A mini, handheld vacuum works great for clearing out any dust that may collect under your desk and among all those pesky computer and phone cables. For your desktop and filing cabinets, keep a feather duster handy and wipe clean once a week with a dusting solution.

Keep a small container of glass cleaner handy for your computer screen. And of course, don’t forget the can of compressed air to blow dust out of your keyboard and air vents on your computer hard drive case.

For deep cleaning, a product that’s a must-have for the office is a high tech cleaning compound called CyberClean. This putty-like compound can be used to clean all your electronic devices, and it cleans in those hard-to-reach areas of your computer keyboard. Germs and bacteria often lurk in areas such as between the keys on your keyboard or on your office phone or even your Blackberry cell phone. You might notice grime build-up around control buttons on your printer or fax machine. Any electronic device or gadget can accumulate dust, hair, food or other substances if left unattended for a while.

Cleaners like this also work well for auto cleaning. Cars often collect lots of dust, food particles, drink spills, etc. Using CyberClean and other germ-killing or anti-bacterial solutions such as rubbing alcohol can help minimize the spread of viruses in the office environment while giving your office equipment a clean, fresh look and feel.

Organize to Make Cleaning Easier

One way to simplify the office cleaning process is to organize your office. Put away files, papers and books to avoid clutter. Use cable organizers to cover and protect your cables. These can help keep your cables from collecting dust and improve the look of your office. Cable covers can also protect cables from pets or from foot traffic if the cables run across the floor of your office.

If you don’t have a file cabinet or storage shelf for your home office, invest in one as soon as possible. These can make organizing so much easier while also keeping papers and files out of the way while cleaning. Also consider desk organizers for pens, calculators, paperclips, etc. You’ll be able to think clearer and have more space to work once all your office items are in place.

Being a work-at-home mom isn’t always easy. There are household and office chores that must be taken care of on a daily or weekly basis to keep things running efficiently. Whether you have one kid or five, you’ll need quick, easy cleaning solutions for your home, office and automobile!

Sanitize your keyboard and phone

Take it!
Take another little piece of my lunch now, keyboard,
Oh-Oh .. broke it!
Broke another little bunch of my chips, can’t fish them out‚Äîyeah

Look at your keyboard. Does it show little signs of snacks you’ve eaten? Dusty gunk between the keys? Uber gross. If your keyboard looks like ours, do what we did‚Äîuse a batch of Schmutz Be-Gone (officially known as Cyber Clean).

This handy little batch of slime goes where no rag or spray can will. And it sanitizes as it goes. Just wad it up and press it down. Presto. The crud is gone from you keyboard, your phone, the vents in your car … you get the idea.

‘Cause you know you’ve cleaned it if it makes it look good.

Yellow Goo Cleans Dirty Keyboards & Remote Controls

Welcome Back to the Cyberclean Blog!

Yellow Goo Cleans Dirty Keyboards & Remote Controls
Robert Franner
Published: 07/09/2009 09:31:14 AM UTC in General Interest

Most computer users know how quickly the keyboard can become a repository of grit, dirt, and unimaginable biological contamination. Few dare to go much beyond turning the keyboard upside-down and giving it a good shake to remedy the situation; fluids are out of the question for obvious reasons. And if you’ve got a notebook, even a gentle shake may be ill advised because of the hard drive inside.

The makers of a new product called Cyber Clean claim to have the solution, in a bright yellow slime that is applied over the keys and then peeled away in one piece. Patented and non-toxic, Cyber Clean is said to remove particles while disinfecting the area, leaving neither any residue nor odor. Also, it can be used “up to” 75 times and is biodegradable.

With a neutral pH balance of 7, Cyber Clean is further posited as a “safe alternative to toxic, dangerous pollutants.” The makers suggest that it’s suitable for a wide variety of applications besides computer keyboards, including remote controls and other household items that people are reluctant to clean.

“Tests have proven that keyboards have a higher level of harmful germs than public toilets,” notes Cyber Clean Americas CEO, Alan Sutton. “Traditional cleaners have physical limits, however. Cyber Clean combines viscosity elasticity to its unique micro-encapsulation process to absorb dirt and residue in the most difficult to reach places, keeping the workplace and/or home environment safe and clean!”

Even if you find the above claim a tad hard to swallow (I mean the bit about public toilets), the product sounds like a good bet to clean areas unreachable by other means.

Cyber Clean is now widely available in the North & South American markets. Canadians can purchase the goo at retail in Office Depot, Zellers, Wal-mart Canada, Canadian Tire, and Loblaws.
